
Research Study: Advancing Therapy for Children with Hemiparesis
We are proud to see our Diego and Myro as part of a very promising retrospective study exploring the effect of modified Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (mCIMT), Bimanual Intensive Therapy (BIT), and exergame-based robotics to enhance limitations in children with hemiparesis. 23 children with upper limb impairments underwent 30 hours of intensive therapy over an 8-day intensive camp.
Highlights
- The group-based day camp model took place for 4 half-days per week for 2 weeks (30 h over 8 days)
- PULIT effectively increases children’s dexterity, ADL performance, and achieves individual goals (85.7% GAS).
- PULIT reaches an equal therapy effect in shorter time period and with fewer hours as previous RCTs using state-of-the-art-therapy for children with (severe) upper limb impairments.
Intensive therapy programs like the PULIT program might be an effective booster session for children to learn relevant ADLs and gain functional independence.
